Green Labor Guillotine – Working Overtime“The Green Labor Alliance who pride themselves on Parliamentary scrutiny, have this evening ensured that 4 Bills faced the guillotine in the Senate, rammed through without a single word of debate,” Senator Abetz said.
Defiance of Fair Work Australia RegrettableToday’s vote by nurses in Victoria to defy two Fair Work Australia orders is deeply concerning according to the Opposition. “It is regrettable that the Australian Nurses Federation would stand in open defiance of Fair Work Australia,” Senator Abetz said today.
Qantas Dispute“It’s disappointing that parties couldn’t come to a conclusion before today. We look forward to a final outcome and it’s important that Qantas and the Union Leadership respect the decision of the independent umpire, Fair Work Australia,” Senator Abetz said today. “The sooner certainty is given to the Australian travelling public, especially in the lead up to Christmas, the better.”
Pontville Cost Blow-out“It’s been revealed that Labor spent more than $185,000 in October to fly 35 asylum seekers to Tasmania on a chartered jet,” Senator Abetz said today. “In response to a question I asked the Immigration Minister Labor has confirmed that the Government spent $185,900 on a private jet to transfer 35 asylum seekers from Curtin Immigration Centre in Western Australia to Tasmania.”

Union Thuggery must be stoppedToday we have seen deeply concerning pictures of a violent attack on a security guard by union members participating in a picket line outside Baiada Poultry in Victoria. “Without expressing any view or opinion on the justice of the industrial campaign, this kind of violence and thuggery is unacceptable and shouldn’t be happening in Australia,” Senator Abetz said today.
Evans gets something half right – cause for celebrationToday’s concession by Workplace Relations Minister Chris Evans on Labor’s harmonisation of occupational health and safety laws is a welcome and common sense approach according to Shadow Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations Senator Eric Abetz. Minister Evans has today conceded that businesses will be able to delay implementing new national health and safety laws by up to 12 months if the regulations result in them having to undertake significant change. Given that almost every business will have to make significant change, this is the Minister’s back door way of delaying the laws implementation.
Brown’s Vanity Exposed“Today’s ridiculous motion from Senator Brown about a perceived ‘missed photo opportunity’ at the end of the Carbon Tax vote yesterday has simply exposed his vanity and petulance,” Senator Eric Abetz said today. “On the day the Senate finally passed the Carbon Tax package, what preoccupied Senator Brown so much that he wanted a full-blown debate about it today?”
Labor has Betrayed the Tasmanian People“Having been elected to the Parliament of Australia on an ironclad – rock solid promise that there would be NO Carbon TAX, Tasmanian Labor Senators and Members of Parliament have shamelessly betrayed the Tasmanian people,” Senator Abetz said today. “Labor Senators Catryna Bilyk, Carol Brown, Helen Polley, Nick Sherry, Lisa Singh, Anne Urquhart and Labor Members Sid Sidebottom, Dick Adams, Geoff Lyons and Julie Collins were all elected to the Parliament on a No Carbon TAX promise.”
