“It’s been revealed that Labor spent more than $185,000 in October to fly 35 asylum seekers to Tasmania on a chartered jet,” Senator Abetz said today. “In response to a question I asked the Immigration Minister Labor has confirmed that the Government spent $185,900 on a private jet to transfer 35 asylum seekers from Curtin Immigration Centre in Western Australia to Tasmania.”

Today’s concession by Workplace Relations Minister Chris Evans on Labor’s harmonisation of occupational health and safety laws is a welcome and common sense approach according to Shadow Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations Senator Eric Abetz. Minister Evans has today conceded that businesses will be able to delay implementing new national health and safety laws by up to 12 months if the regulations result in them having to undertake significant change. Given that almost every business will have to make significant change, this is the Minister’s back door way of delaying the laws implementation.
