“Reports today that Qantas staff have been threatened with violence as retribution for not taking part in union strike action is to be utterly condemned and has absolutely no place in modern day industrial disputation,” Senator Abetz said today.

“I call on Prime Minister Julia Gillard and ACTU President Ged Kearney to send the strongest message possible to those who would partake in this type of thuggery by publicly condemning this despicable behaviour.”

Australian Muslims called on to protect Iranian Pastor

Reports that Iranian Christian Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani is facing the death penalty are most disturbing, Opposition Leader in the Senate Eric Abetz said today.

“For somebody to face the death penalty for their religious beliefs is something that I’m sure all Australians abhor,” Senator Abetz said today.

Tasmanians Oppose Carbon Tax - EMRS Poll

An EMRS poll of Tasmanian voters released today shows strong opposition to the Green Labor Carbon Tax with the strongest opposition to the Tax reflected by Tasmanians in Labor held seats of Braddon, Bass and Lyons.

“The EMRS poll results should send a strong message to all Tasmanian Labor Members and Senators that the majority of Tasmanians oppose a Carbon Tax,” Senator Abetz said.

Coalition Welcomes Win for Queensland Community Sector

The Coalition has today welcomed the Government's back down on the regulation that would place 316 community sector organisations in Queensland under extreme financial pressure

Greens Vote to put Asylum Seekers in Harms Way

"This afternoon in the Senate the Greens sided with Labor and voted against a Coalition Motion condemning the Government's Malaysia swap deal," Senator Abetz said today. 

"Astoundingly this is a complete reversal of their previous position."

"The Greens today voted against my motion that: The Senate rejects the Government's attempts to provide inadequate protections for asylum seekers in its proposed legislation to resurrect its Malaysian asylum seeker deal."
