Increased Support for Tasmania's Veterans and Ex-Service Personnel

“A Coalition Government will introduce new indexation arrangements for Defence Force Retirement and Death Benefits Scheme (DFRDB) members, benefiting Tasmania’s veterans and ex-service,” Senator Eric Abetz said today.

Senator Abetz said that these changes recognise the unique nature of military service. Better indexation arrangements are a necessary part of a fair, equitable and fiscally responsible military superannuation system.

Julia Gillard's Road-Map to Confusion

With less than two weeks to go in Labor’s ‘countdown to chaos’, with the implementation on July 1 of Julia Gillard’s new industrial laws, workers and employees are still none the wiser about how to interpret Labor’s new workplace rules.

Just like Labor’s litany of broken promises, the BER building rorts, their failed border protection policy, the disastrous and tragic home insulation debacle, back flips, belly flops and back downs on the ETS, Fuel Watch and Grocery Choice, Ms Gillard and Labor have once again failed to deliver what was promised.

Labor's Fair Work Australia - Twice the Confusion

Labor’s so-called Fair Work laws are in disarray after it was revealed today that an identical enterprise agreement, accidentally lodged twice, was approved by one Commissioner, but rejected by another.

Senator Eric Abetz said “This bungle makes a mockery of Labor’s laws which were sold to Australian workplaces as being simpler, less bureaucratic and without legal complexity.”

Rudd's Desperate Senate Attack

Prime Minister  Kevin Rudd’s shallow and vacuous attacks on the Senate over the last two days are nothing more than a desperate attempt to distract from his massive failings on the mining tax, border protection, insulation and BER, to name but a few, the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Senator Eric Abetz, said today.

“Yesterday Mr Rudd staged a baby-kissing event to call on the Senate to “get out of the way” on paid parental leave – despite the fact he knew full well that it will be passed by the end of today”, Senator Abetz said.

Ms Gillard has a duty, both as would be Prime Minister and Minister for Workplace Relations, to immediately condemn the threatened strike by the CFMEU over prosecution action faced by one of its members, Ark Tribe.

Whilst deliberate misinformation has been fed to, and regrettably reported, by the media, the facts are:

Labor called upon to remove new $500 impost on licensed Post Offices

Plans to inflict a $500.00 annual fee on licensed Post Offices in Tasmania for the cost of them undertaking mandatory AUSTRAC reporting has been described as completely unacceptable by Tasmanian Liberal Senator, Eric Abetz.

Labor's Confusion of Calculation

Paymasters face more confusion over exactly what they should pay workers following revelations that Julia Gillard’s Fair Work Australia has muddled its figures regarding new hourly rates of pay for workers on the minimum wage.

Fair Work Australia announced last week that workers on the minimum wage would receive a $26 per week pay rise. In handing down their decision they calculated this at an increase of 69 cents per hour.
