Another Day – Another Lock-out
“Today’s announcement that Schweppes in Australia will lock out 150 of its workers after rolling industrial action shows that there is a bigger problem with the Fair Work Act,” Opposition Workplace Relations spokesman Senator Eric Abetz said today.
“This is the latest following Qantas and POAGS lock-outs and it is now clear that there is a bigger problem,” Senator Abetz said today.
“Minister Shorten must use his moral authority to sort this out and to get people back around the table.”
“We were told that Qantas’ actions were ‘extreme’ and showed ‘employer militancy’. Clearly there is a bigger problem where the union bosses are pushing for unrealistic demands and employers are being forced to take drastic action in response – and all the time not a single word about productivity.”
“Mr Shorten must also tackle the bigger problem. We were told that the details of the scheduled review of the Fair Work Act would be released by the end of November, but we’re still waiting.”
“The review must consider matters such as these in the review and it should be conducted by the Productivity Commission,” Senator Abetz concluded.
