Evans appears to support the Productivity Commission on the Fair Work Review

The Minister for Workplace Relations, Senator Chris Evans yesterday told the media that the review of the Fair Work Act:

...will be done by someone independent of government, independent of the department, and independent of trade unions and employers. So someone who can bring a fresh pair of eyes to the issues, and someone who will look at the evidence of what’s been working and what’s not working, and provide a report to government.

“Who better than the Productivity Commission,” Shadow Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations Senator Eric Abetz said today.

“Just this week, I have asked the Productivity Commission to conduct the review of the Fair Work Act because Labor has dragged their feet in announcing the details.”

“Senator Evans told us in Senate Estimates that the details would be announced by the end of November, we’re now a week into December and there’s still nothing.”

“This just shows how dysfunctional this Government is,” Senator Abetz said.

“The Productivity Commission is the best body to conduct the review particularly in light of the Australia Network debacle.”

“I call on the Minister to allow the Productivity Commission to conduct the long awaited review,” Senator Abetz concluded.
