Fair Work Ombudsman Responds to Opposition

Today’s media release by the Fair Work Ombudsman Mr Nicolas Wilson claiming he is there to help small business is a welcome development – but too late, according to Shadow Employment and Workplace Relations Minister Senator Eric Abetz.

“It is a matter of regret that it took the Opposition highlighting the plight of small business to finally get the Government to move to help the sector”.

“This statement by Labor’s Fair Work Commissioner should have been released before the changes occurred, not after”, says Senator Abetz.

“Further, all the promised visits to business will be too late if they take place after the laws have changed and small business face prosecution for inadvertence.”

“Ms Gillard’s lack of support for the small business sector is highlighted by Mr Wilson claiming the Fair Work office is there to help small business, because Labor and Ms Gillard clearly aren’t.”

“I again call for a moratorium from prosecution from small business people who inadvertently breach this morass of confusion dubbed ‘Modern’ by Ms Gillard.”
