Henry Review ignores Tasmania
“It’s typical of Labor’s lazy Federal representation that the Henry Tax Review all but ignored Tasmania,” says Senator Eric Abetz.
“Out of 13 focus groups, none were held in Tasmania.”
“Out of 14 days of stakeholder meetings, none were held in Tasmania.”
“Added to this, only 1 out of 10 public consultations were held in Tasmania.”
Senator Abetz says, “This revelation comes on top of lazy Labor not getting one cent out of last years infrastructure fund and not getting one cent out of this year’s rail fund for Tasmania.”
“The Henry Review held focus groups in Lismore and Townsville, but not in Tasmania.”
“All the stakeholder meetings were held in the Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne triangle,” says Senator Abetz.
“With the Assistant Treasurer being a Labor Senator for Tasmania, one would have hoped that the people of Tasmania, who Senator Sherry is supposed to represent in the Parliament, might have been asked to contribute something to the Tax Review process.”
“Tasmania was also totally ignored by Labor in this years Budget, in fact Tasmania, which has the highest rate of unemployment anywhere in Australia, is now worse off under Labor than it has ever been.”
“The Tasmanian Liberal Senate team will continue to make Labor account for its abject failure to address the real concerns of the people of Tasmania”.
“I would remind Senator Sherry and his Labor colleagues that they were elected to represent the people of Tasmania and it’s about time they did so.”
