Labor called upon to remove new $500 impost on licensed Post Offices
Plans to inflict a $500.00 annual fee on licensed Post Offices in Tasmania for the cost of them undertaking mandatory AUSTRAC reporting has been described as completely unacceptable by Tasmanian Liberal Senator, Eric Abetz.
“I have been advised by licensed Post Offices that Federal Labor is considering charging this $500.00 annual impost.”
“These licensed Post Offices already have to provide detailed annual reports for AUSTRAC as well as remaining vigilant for suspicious transaction. The have an obligation to report such transactions.”
“To now require the licensees to not only undertake all this work free of charge, but to now also pay a $500.00 annual fee is unconscionable, and again an indication of how contemptuous of small business Federal Labor has become.”
“I urge Federal Labor to immediately withdraw any suggestion of the completely unacceptable impost,” Senator Abetz said.
