Labor Senators reject Gillard’s India Uranium Policy
This afternoon all Labor Senators voted against a motion supporting the Prime Minister’s position on the sale of Uranium to India.
“Labor Senators had the opportunity to support Australia’s economy, security and the environment and their own Prime Minister but they chose to vote it down.”
“Labor’s own ‘faceless man’ Senator David Feeney outed himself on this issue but today he has back flipped to support what he described in today’s Age as a policy that is ‘illogical and hypocritical’ – ‘a piece of empty moral posturing with no practical effects except harmful ones. It’s time we got rid of it.”
“It’s very clear that despite the big talk, Labor Senators didn’t have the courage to walk the talk.”
“If Labor Senators won’t back Julia Gillard in motions before the Senate, things don’t look good for Labor’s national conference or her leadership,” Senator Abetz concluded.
