More Strikes – by Labor’s own Benchmark, another Failure

The Australian Bureau of Statistics has today released the industrial disputation data for the last quarter that shows a considerable increase up to 10.1 working days lost per thousand employees. This is the highest level of industrial disputation in more than half a decade.

Labor, in the Fair Work Act’s key performance indicators point to low levels of industrial disputation as a sign of the Act’s success – well today its clear there is a failure.

“There’s no doubt that the union bosses have been emboldened and so we’ve seen an increase in industrial action in the last quarter,” Senator Abetz said today.

“Recent increased industrial disputation is also attributable to the activities of some elements of the union leadership who have brazenly advocated for illegal strike action.”

“With Labor and the ACTU refusing to condemn this type of activity it’s no wonder rogue elements within the union movement now think they can get away with anything,” Senator Abetz said.

“No doubt the union leadership will be pushing for an even wider scope of things they can go on strike over at this weekend’s ALP National Conference.”

“More strikes – by Labor’s own definition – show a clear failure of the Fair Work Act to deliver in this important area and increasing the scope would just make things worse,” Senator Abetz said.
