Pontville Promises turn to Dust – Yet Again
“Revelations of wholesale sackings of security workers at Pontville is just the latest instalment of Labor’s mismanagement at the centre,” Senator Eric Abetz said today.
“People were promised jobs. They got jobs. Now before their probation is even finalised they are being sacked.”
“Lucky this is a Labor Government facility and not Qantas, otherwise the unions would be running strikes,” Senator Abetz said.
“The promise of jobs to placate the community about lack of consultation is now exposed as just being another part of the “say anything” approach by this Labor Government.”
“The latest Senate Estimates hearing in October heard that a memorandum of understanding with Tasmania Police still needed to be finalised.”
“One trusts it has been finalised, but it was concerning that inmates were in the Centre without a finalised memorandum of understanding.
“The sorts of assurances coming out of the Government are exactly the same as were provided about Christmas Island and Villawood before the riots,” Senator Abetz said.
