Qantas Strike Called Off – Too Little Too Late
“The cancellation of scheduled strike action by Qantas engineers this afternoon is welcomed but comes too late for passengers who will still face delays due to Qantas having to reschedule services in the lead up to today’s threatened industrial action,” Senator Eric Abetz said.
“Just last Friday, the TWU called off strike action at the last minute after Qantas had already taken action to minimise disruption to the network.”
“I hope this is not a case of the unions playing games at the expense of the travelling public.”
“I am aware there have been a number of claims and counter claims by both sides involved in this dispute however I would urge both parties to return to the negotiating table.”
“The big losers in this protracted dispute between the unions and Qantas are the travelling public and the struggling tourism sector.”
“I would hope common sense prevails,” Senator Abetz said.
