So much for an era of openness and transparency
Figures released show Labor’s commitment to being open and transparent was nothing more than spin with more than half of answers to Questions on Notice from Senate Estimates still outstanding well past the due date.
“Chris Bowen, Anthony Albanese and Kevin Rudd are the worst culprits, not being able to respond to even one question and Ministers Conroy, Wong and Plibersek aren’t too far behind,” Senator Abetz said today.
“If the Government’s doing such a good job, why are they going out of their way to hide from scrutiny and accountability?”
“The facts are clear:
- Not one question has been answered for Immigration and Citizenship
- Not one question has been answered for Infrastructure and Transport
- Not one question has been answered for AusAID.
- Over 86% of answers outstanding for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy
- Over 78% of answers outstanding for Finance and Deregulation
- Over 71% of answers outstanding for Health and Ageing
- Over 67% of answers outstanding for Environment and Communications
- Over 65% of answers outstanding for Community Affairs
- Over 54% of answers outstanding for Education, Employment and Workplace Relations
- Over 45% of answers outstanding for Defence
- Over 35 % of answers outstanding for the Attorney-General.”
“All questions were due to be answered by 9 December. Instead of pontificating about open and transparent government, it’s time for Labor to start delivering it,” Senator Abetz concluded.
