Tasmania Dudded on Cancer Funding - Roxon Misled Tasmanians

Federal Labor funding of cancer services to Tasmania was slashed by $29 million in a deal between Federal and State Labor, it has been revealed at Senate Estimates to the Tasmanian Liberal Senate Team.

Under questioning by Tasmanian Liberal Senator Eric Abetz on behalf of the Tasmanian Liberal Senate Team, the Health Department acknowledged Tasmania had sought funding of $47 million and was told by Federal Labor to resubmit an application for $29 million less.

My advice is that Tasmania was only given 48 hours to put in a revised bid.

Minister Roxon had the audacity to claim, in announcing the funding package that Tasmania got everything it asked for.

The simple revelations at the Senate hearing expose Tasmania, the State with the highest cancer rate in the Nation, actually asked for $47 million NOT the paltry $18 million it received.

Tasmania only got $18 million, but Nowra received $23 million and Townsville $70 million which highlights yet again how Federal Labor representatives from Tasmania are failing our State and Tasmanian Labor’s pathetic acquiescence to what Federal Labor dictates.

Tasmanians have been badly short changed on infrastructure funding, rail funding and now cancer funding by Labor.
