Trashing Democracy - Greens Wag Labor’s Dog - Senate Safer with Coalition

"The Greens support of Labor's motion to gag debate in the Senate on 30 Bills and ram them through the Parliament without proper scrutiny is proof that the Greens are not only dictating policy but that they are also dictating how it's done," Senator Abetz said today.

"This is a case of democracy being trashed and the Greens wagging Labor's dog."

"The Greens were outraged when 36 Bills were guillotined by the Coalition in Government over three years but now, just like Madame Defarge, its Senator Milne herself who's let slip the guillotine on 110 Bills."

"What hypocrisy," Senator Abetz said.

"By the end of this Parliament it's likely that the Greens will have voted with Labor to have more than 200 Bills guillotined without the proper scrutiny demanded by the Australian people - six times more often than under the Coalition in Government."

"The Australian people have the right to feel betrayed by Labor and the Greens who by their actions are denying the people the right to true democracy."

"Both Labor and the Greens promised transparency but instead they are guillotining Government Bills that deal with billions of dollars in taxpayer's money."

"This is an abuse of the Parliamentary process," Senator Abetz said.

"Proper scrutiny of the law of the land has been denied, debate has been shut down and the Australian people have effectively been shut out of their Parliament."

"By the Green/Labor standard, which they applied in 2007, the Senate is in safer hands with the Coalition in control, rather than the Green/ALP Alliance&.a lot safer&six times as safe in fact!" Senator Abetz said.
