Who’s to blame this time, Julia?

Last night, the Tasmanian Parliament voted to amend the Work Health Safety bill to delay commencement for a year (11 votes to 3). The Bill has now been sent back to the lower house for further debate in March of next year.

This is yet another Parliament that has chosen to delay the implementation of the model occupational health and safety laws – adding to South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia.

Meanwhile NSW has deliberately legislated non-uniform laws courtesy of the ALP and the Greens in the Upper House.

“Many codes of practice are still to be finalised and it is now becoming a rush job for the Federal Government,” Senator Abetz said.

“The question is: Who will Julia blame now?”

“Labor should delay the implementation of the new harmonised laws for 1 year to ascertain whether genuine harmonisation can take place rather than rushing in headfirst and implementing another Julia Gillard mess,” Senator Abetz concluded.
