ABC must reconsider promotion of oppressive Hijab

Reports today that the ABC will put to air a program promoting the use of the Hijab is disappointing and should be reconsidered according to Liberal Senator Eric Abetz.

Hijabistas! with Yassmin Abdel-Magied will air on ABC iView on May 1, as six six-minute episodes, and follows the scandal-prone Ms Abdel-Magied through Australia’s Islamic headwear fashion scene.

“While hundreds of thousands of women have bravely protested, in the face of arrest and imprisonment, to be freed from the oppression of the Hijab we have the ABC in Australia championing this oppressive symbol with taxpayers' money,” Senator Abetz said.

“The ABC must reconsider this programme - if anything, the ABC should be broadcasting programmes in support of these brave women rather than supporting those who seek to oppress them.”

“Further, for someone who claims Australia is so unwelcoming and racist, it’s surprising to see Ms Abdel Magied is taking even more money from Australian taxpayers to push her own left-wing extremist views.”

The ABC will be appearing at a Senate Estimates spillover hearing this morning.
