Former Employment Minister Eric Abetz has welcomed the news that Comcare has turned around its financial position to be fully funded for the first time in 7 years.
When the Coalition came to office in 2013, Comcare was run down, turning a massive loss and seeing claims sky rocket. By contrast, Comcare has overseen a reduction in claims, improved return to work outcomes and has seen premium rates reduce by 28% over the last year. This improvement is expected to save taxpayers $87 million next year alone.
“The turnaround in Comcare is outstanding and thanks in large part to the management of the agency and the scheme under its Chief Executive Jennifer Taylor. The improved financial position means better outcomes for injured workers at a lower cost to the taxpayer,” Senator Abetz said.
“The dilapidated scheme that the Coalition took over in 2013 was in need of significant repair and I am pleased that in just a few short years, Ms Taylor and her team have been able to ensure the scheme is fully funded and to oversee a reduction in claims and improved return to work rates.”
“I congratulate Ms Taylor, her team at Comcare and officials at the Department of Employment who have worked tirelessly for this outcome on this outstanding result,” Senator Abetz concluded.
