David O’Byrne a national embarrassment
Tasmanian Minister David O’Byrne’s comment via a tweet that Margaret Thatcher was a “war criminal” is in very poor taste and an embarrassment to the Tasmanian people.
“This kind of vile commentary, following the passing of one of the world’s strongest leaders, is to be condemned in the strongest terms,” Senator Abetz said today.
“If the Tasmanian Government is to retain any credibility, Premier Giddings must bring Mr O’Byrne into line. It is a national embarrassment to have this minister labelling a genuinely democratically elected leader from one of the world’s oldest democracies a war criminal.”
“For someone touted as the next Labor Leader of Tasmania to be dancing on the grave of the first and ever only UK female Prime Minister and a very long serving elder stateswoman goes to show the true character of Mr O’Byrne.”
“Even Julia Gillard was able to acknowledge Baroness Thatcher’s outstanding achievements which included strengthening the UK economy, creating jobs, lifting people out of poverty and taking a tough stand against communism and socialism.”
“By contrast David O’Byrne has worked to bring radical and socialist policies to Tasmania, even inviting the Marxist President of Venezuela Hugo Chavez to Australia. One would have thought as the Economic Development Minister presiding over the country’s highest unemployment rate, he might have other things to do rather than dance on Baroness Thatcher’s grave,” Senator Abetz concluded.
