Hobart City Council should focus on its actual job

The Council's decision to try and change Australia Day is both grandstanding and time-wasting from a Council that can't get the basics right.

"Hobart City Council seems to be more focused on political activism and changing the world than resolving the local issues of ratepayers," Senator Abetz said.

"This Council can't even organise a Christmas Tree without stuffing it up, yet now Aldermen can find time and money to try and change Australia day - clearly their priorities are out of whack."

"Australia Day is the Celebration of our nation and the many blessings we enjoy. Rather than pursuing divisive distractions which have already been ruled out by the Prime Minister the Council should deal with the issues actually impacting ratepayers. Indigenous leaders that are actually elected by popular vote such as Councillor Jacinta Price oppose any change."

"Championing this suggestion gives credibility to a needless and time and resource wasting distraction at the expense of the long suffering ratepayer."

"Instead of pushing this PC agenda, the Council should get back to its day job," Senator Abetz said.
