It’s time: Albanese must expel Setka

New Labor Leader Anthony Albanese must take action to expel John Setka from the Labor Party following the most recent criminal allegations against him.

According to reports, Mr Setka will plead guilty to allegations of using a carriage service to harass a female with abusive language.

“Mr Albanese must do what Mr Shorten wasn’t prepared to and immediately move to have Mr Setka expelled from the Labor Party,” Senator Abetz said.

“Mr Setka has a long history of law-breaking but the latest criminal allegations, to which it is reported that he will plead guilty, set a new low.”

“It’s not good enough for Mr Albanese to distance himself, Mr Setka runs a major trade union that has substantial influence in the Labor Party – the very least he can do is have Mr Setka expelled from the Labor Party.”

“Further, Mr Albanese must seriously consider whether the CFMEU’s record of lawbreaking renders them incapable of having voting rights at the Labor Party’s council.”

“If Mr Albanese won’t remove Mr Setka, it sends a troubling message about the Labor Party’s preparedness to stand by while criminals with serious allegations of harassment against women continue to wield influence in the Labor Party” Senator Abetz concluded.
