Kevin Rudd has zero credibility on boats

Kevin Rudd’s bizarre intervention today to criticise the Government’s border protection efforts is akin to the arsonist returning to the scene of the crime.

Despite Kevin Rudd’s commitment before the 2007 election to implement the Howard Government’s border protection policies, they opened our borders which saw a $10 billion budget blowout, the opening of 17 detention centres, more than 1,000 men, women and children drown at sea and more than 2,000 children in detention.

“Kevin Rudd created the mess and now he wants to help send a message to criminal people smugglers that they should be back in business,” Senator Abetz said today.

“Under Mr Rudd, Australia lost control of its borders and we saw more than a thousand men, women and children drown at sea as well as a massive expansion to our detention centre network.”

“Any policy which encourages a criminal trade that results in countless deaths is inhumane.”

“Instead of lecturing the Government about its policy which has achieved the right policy settings right, Mr Rudd should apologise for the irresponsible policy that he implemented.”

“The Coalition’s achievements in stopping the boats, stopping the drownings and removing children from detention is there for all to see. Mr Rudd’s audacity in entering this debate after his spectacular failing in this space is truly breathtaking. Next he’ll be try and tell us how we should run a Pink Batts Scheme,” Senator Abetz concluded.
