Liberals to create 1.25 million jobs over next 5 years
The Tasmanian Liberal Senate Team has warmly welcomed Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s announcement today that the Federal Liberal Government will create 1.25 million jobs over the next 5 years, including continued strong jobs growth in Tasmania.
Today’s announcement follows the Government delivering and beating its pre-2013 commitment of 1 million jobs over 5 years, and the Tasmanian unemployment rate dropping from 8.1% when Bill Shorten was the Employment Minister to well below 6% today.
“The Federal Liberal Government has delivered policies that have turned Tasmania from an economic basket-case to widespread economic prosperity over the last 5 years and the Prime Minister’s strong plan will ensure the continued creation of jobs for Tasmanians in coming years,” Senator Abetz said.
“The Prime Minister’s clear plan for a stronger Australia will bolster job creation in Tasmania and create even more opportunities for young Tasmanians to stay in Tasmania. This plan will build on the Government’s strong record of delivery which shows that we can be trusted to implement our commitments,” Senator Colbeck said.
“Only because we’ve put in the hard yards to get the economy in shape are we now able to invest in schools, hospitals and infrastructure in Tasmania including the completion of the Midland Highway upgrades and building a new Bridgewater Bridge,” Senator Duniam said.
“The contrast couldn’t be clearer: when Bill Shorten was the Employment Minister, the Tasmanian unemployment was 8.1% and the economy was in recession. Today, unemployment is below 6% and because of our strong economic management, we are investing record amounts in schools, hospitals and infrastructure while creating lasting opportunities for young Tasmanians,” Senator Abetz concluded.
