Mighell’s Support for Shorten Says it All

“The fact that firebrand unionist Dean Mighell has stepped up to support Bill Shorten’s ill-advised endorsement of a conference celebrating union militancy two days ago highlights how partisan the  Minister and the Government have become,” Senator Abetz said today.

“Mighell’s support may also help explain the Minister’s paralysis in the face of shady money deals by Union bosses and their failure to disclose.”

“On April the 10th Mighell will be facing the Federal Court confronting an application that he open his Union’s books to a NSW auditor appointed by his Union’s National Council.”

“Minister Shorten’s endorsement by a Union militant like Mr Mighell (who Kevin Rudd expelled from Labor whilst he was leader for bad behaviour) shows just how the Minister has either unwittingly, or deliberately, positioned himself.”

“Workplace Relations is an area that needs sound judgement and maturity – not simplistic and divisive rabble rousing,” Senator Abetz said.

“The position of Workplace Relations Minister in the Commonwealth Government is not just an upmarket version of a Union boss.”

“It is a position that every worker and every employer and their representative organisations can look up to.”

“Mr Shorten needs to rise above the fray,” Senator Abetz said.
