Productivity Commission Review on GST
The Productivity Commission’s draft report into Horizontal Fiscal Equalisation is interesting but only a draft on which many will make further submissions.
The Productivity Commission’s broad support for the principle of Horizontal Fiscal Equalisation is welcome and a huge testament to the GST infrastructure established by the Howard Government almost two decades ago.
I am somewhat concerned that the draft recommendations could see Tasmania lose more than a billion dollars at a time when the state has only just turned the corner to economic recovery.
As a Liberal Senator for Tasmania, I will work closely with the Tasmanian Government to advance Tasmania’s interests as this process works towards a final set of recommendations.
