Public Service ‘yes’ activism breaches rules: Abetz

Liberal Senator Eric Abetz has demanded an explanation following a ‘yes’ campaign poster being placed on prominent display in the lobby of the Department of Energy and Environment’s main building in Canberra.

The display of political material, such as this, may contravene the APS Code of Conduct2017-eelobby-poster2

“I’ve been approached by several ‘no’ voting employees who are concerned by this highly political message being displayed by a government department. Clearly, it is highly inappropriate and should be removed,” Senator Abetz said.

“The public service should be apolitical and not engaged in political campaigning on any side of the marriage debate.”

“I have written to the Secretary of the Department to seek urgent advice about how and why this political message has been put on display,” Senator Abetz concluded.
