Resignation of Nikki Haley

The announcement today that US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley is stepping down will leave a big hole at the UN according to Liberal Senator and Chair of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Eric Abetz.

“While only serving in the role for just under two years, Ambassador Haley has proven herself to be one of the most effective advocates for western values in that forum that we’ve seen,” Senator Abetz said.

“In her time, we have seen the US be assertive in pushing for much needed reform of the United Nations including ensuring funds provided were outcomes based. She has also championed the nation state of Israel, something that Australia has strongly supported at the UN.”

“Moving forward, I am hopeful that western nations like Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and New Zealand can continue to take a stronger stand for western values at the United Nations.”

“I wish Ambassador Haley well for her future,” Senator Abetz concluded.
