Tasmanian Men’s Sheds to benefit from Federal Government initiative
The Federal Liberal National Government will unlock new fundraising potential for Men’s Sheds across Tasmania by ensuring that donations to the Sheds are tax deductible from 1 July 2020.
The Government will introduce legislation which will see all donations over $2 from 1 July 2020 are tax deductible. This announcement follows the more than $2 million that the Federal Liberal National Government has invested in Tasmanian Men’s Sheds since 2013.
“Every day, dozens of Men’s Sheds provide valuable support to countless Tasmanians right around the state and this announcement will ensure the Men’s Shed network can grow and prosper,” Senator Abetz said.
“Because the Federal Budget is returning to surplus, the Federal Liberal National Government can now introduce a new law that will make donations to Men’s Sheds tax deductible. The Sheds will join charities including the Red Cross, World Vision and The Smith Family which already have this status, known as a Deductible Gift Recipient,” Senator Askew said.
“This will help to secure the financial stability of some existing Sheds, allow for the expansion of others or even assist in the creation of more Men’s Sheds. Men’s Sheds are a success story that has seen a staple of the Australian backyard evolve into a vital part of the Australian community,” Senator Colbeck said.
“Men’s Sheds are a great place for men in the local community to connect and help support one another, which helps to prevent social isolation and preventable health conditions. We are proud to support this vital initiative,” Senator Duniam said.
