What’s Shorten hiding on Wells appointment?

Labor Senators have joined with the Greens to block the release of documents relating to the appointment made by Bill Shorten of Nicole Wells to the Fair Work Commission.

Ms Wells’ dual appointment to the Tasmanian Industrial Commission is under investigation by the Tasmanian Integrity Commission following evidence provided to the Federal Court and an ongoing investigation by the Registered Organisations Commission.

“There are serious questions about the appointment of Ms Wells to the Fair Work Commission and Mr Shorten must explain why he directed Labor Senators to oppose the release of these documents,” Senator Abetz said.

“The fact that this appointment was made in the dying days of the Rudd/Gillard/Rudd Government along with the Federal Court revelations, the Registered Organisations Commission investigation and now the Integrity Commission investigation shows there is a stench around this appointment.”

“The Australian people deserve to know what due diligence was done and why Mr Shorten made the appointment as it goes to his fitness to be the alternate Prime Minister of Australia,” Senator Abetz concluded.
