Will Tasmanian Labor follow Shorten on gender?

Bill Shorten’s statement today that he is opposed to removing gender from birth certificates and other government documents is interesting, but will his Tasmanian Labor colleagues who are driving this change back him in?

Tasmanian Labor, backed by Tasmanian Federal Labor MP’s, have been pushing along with the Greens to remove gender from Tasmanian birth certificates.

“Tasmania’s Federal Labor MP’s must today unequivocally say whether they support Bill Shorten in opposing this change or Rebecca White in backing it,” Senator Abetz said.

“This is an important test of character for both Mr Shorten and Ms White and it is important that Tasmanians understand where Julie Collins, Justine Keay, Ross Hart, Brian Mitchell and Senators Bilyk, Brown, Polley, Singh and Urquhart stand.”

“Sadly, the Labor Party in Tasmania has become captive to the extreme left wing political correctness agenda and instead of focusing on the issues of everyday Tasmanians are more interested in pursuing this kind of nonsense.”

“I congratulate the Prime Minister on his strong and clear stance on this issue and in calling out Labor’s obsession with this political correctness nonsense,” Senator Abetz concluded.
